On Monday, December 16 at 6pm, the City of Davis Social Services Commission is hosting a free talk by Rohit Naimpally on evidence-based best practices to prevent and reduce homelessness. Rohit is the senior policy & research manager for J-PAL North America. J-PAL's co-founders recently won the 2019 Nobel Prize in Economics.
This will be a good opportunity for us to discuss what we can do about the recent increase in homelessness in Davis and Yolo County. The talk will be at the Davis City Hall Community Chambers. 23 Russell Blvd. The event is free and open to the public.
Join the Social Services Commission for this exciting talk by Rohit Naimpally, the leader of j-PAL North America's work on homelessness and housing stability. J-PAL, the Abdul Latif Jameel Poverty Action Lab, is a global research center working to reduce poverty by ensuring that policy is informed by scientific evidence. J-PAL's co-founders, Abhijit Banerjee and Esther Duflo, were recently awarded the 2019 Nobel Prize in Economics.
Rohit will talk about J-PAL's recent evidence review of effective strategies to prevent and mitigate homelessness. He will also outline cutting-edge policy experiments ready for implementation in cities and counties. The talk will be followed by a discussion on how such experiments could help address the challenges faced by Davis and Yolo County.
Rohit Naimpally works with governments, non-profit organizations, foundations, and private enterprises to develop rigorous evidence on policies and programs that impact poverty. Prior to joining J-PAL North America, Rohit worked on the Research and Training Team at J-PAL Global on the development of research resources, and on J-PAL's training courses, with a focus on e-learning platforms. He has also worked at Innovations for Poverty Action (IPA) on a variety of financial inclusion studies in South Asia and Sub-Saharan Africa, research methods and training, and data analysis.
